Those bring a little lightheartedness to these otherwise serious, dark writings. Throughout the book there are files being kept on him by the authorities who follow his every move while he is there, which some are quite comical. Each one has their own ideas, their own thoughts on how they knew him, or even who he is. The book is somewhat hard to keep up with, you never can figure out who is talking, thinking of these stories, be it Manu, his wife Crista or the many people that are waiting for him at the station. Both had bad memories, she with her living under the Hitler rule in Germany & he had depressing views of his country during the war. The story goes into old memories, both he & his wife's. His old friend that invited him is a Communist party informant, which Manu does not know. Biography Gabriela Adameteanu was born in Trgu Ocna on 2 April 1942. He is forbidden to return until he unexpectedly receives an invitation to speak at a University in Bucharest. The author of the celebrated novels The Equal Way of Every Day ( 1975) and Wasted Morning ( 1983 ), she is also known as an activist in support of civil society and member of the Group for Social Dialogue (GDS), as well as editor of Revista 22. He is considered a deserter by the Ceaușescu regime after defecting to Italy after the war.
